Family Sponsorship

A Canadian citizen or permanent resident can sponsor a family member to live in Canada as a permanent resident. A family member who becomes a permanent resident can live, work and study in Canada and will be eligible for benefits such as health care.

The sponsorship undertaking requires that a sponsor be responsible for

  • financial support
  • meet basic needs for themselves and their family member
  • make sure their family member doesn’t need social assistance.

Family members who can be sponsored  to Canada are:

  • spouses or partners
  • dependent children
  • parents
  • grand-parents
  • other relatives.
