What is International Experience Canada (IEC)?

The International Experience Canada (IEC) is a Canadian government program that allows young people from over 30 partner countries to travel and work in Canada for up to 12 or 24 months. While the program generally targets individuals aged 18 to 35, the specific age eligibility criteria may vary depending on your country of citizenship.

Young Professionals Program

Offers an employer-specific, closed work permit to gain targeted Canadian work experience directly related to your field of study or career. A valid job offer is required.

International Co-op Program

Designed for post-secondary students who need to complete a work placement or internship in Canada as part of their academic curriculum. A valid job offer is required.

How the Process Works

Step 1: Check Eligibility

Complete the online "Come to Canada" questionnaire to see if your country and profile qualify. Note: The IEC program is not open all year round.

Step 2: Submit your Profile

Create an online IRCC account and submit your profile into the official IEC pools for your chosen category.

Step 3: Wait for an Invitation

Step 3: Wait for an Invitation

Keep an eye on pool draws. IRCC regularly issues an Invitation to Apply (ITA) to randomly selected candidates.

Step 4: Apply for Your Permit

Once you receive an ITA, you have 10 days to accept it, and 20 days to submit your complete work permit application and pay the fees.
