The three types of work permits available to International Experience Canada (IEC) participants include:

Working Holiday: Provides an open work permit so you can work for almost any employer anywhere in Canada.

 Young Professionals: Designed for targeted professional development and requires a signed job offer from a Canadian employer.  

 International Co-op (Internship): Intended for students who need to complete a structured work placement in Canada as part of their curriculum.

For most closed work permits, yes, you need a valid job offer and often a positive Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from the employer. However, there are exceptions, such as provincial-backed work permits for the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) program,  open work permits (for spouses or graduates) and specific international mobility programs that do not require an initial job offer.

You can sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, dependent children, parents, and grandparents. In very specific, rare circumstances (such as orphaned relatives under 18), you may be able to sponsor other family members..

Yes! Most international students with a valid study permit are permitted to work part-time off campus during regular academic semesters and full-time during scheduled academic breaks, provided they continue to meet all enrollment conditions.

Most visitors are allowed a stay of up to 6 months from the date they enter Canada. The exact date you must leave may or may not be indicated by a stamp in your passport or on a document issued by the border services officer upon arrival. However, you must leave Canada when the initial 6 months period has expired.
